Say Hello to Satoshi Nakamoto: Identity Revealed

We all know that Satoshi Nakamoto is a nickname, but we do not know who really is. Whoever invented Bitcoin is a topic that has been spoken in crypto communities since many years. None of the estimates made so far were accurate: Nobody has any real information about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. Since he is the proud owner of nearly 1 million BTC, there may be a trillionaire walking among us. One of the latest estimates about Nakamoto’s identity belongs to a site called “Zy Crypto”. Because they use scientific methods, they think that their result is precise (1).

Zy Crypto is a UK based website and publishes news about crypto-currencies. The method they used is called “stylometry”. By comparing the style used in a series of texts, this method can predict who wrote a particular text. For example, the entire Harry Potter series was examined by using the stylometry method, and it is revealed that the book “The Cuckoo’s Calling” was also written by JK Rowling: So we know that this method works.

Zy Crypto applied the same technique on about 2,500 sources known to belong to Nakamoto. Among the resources used are Nakamoto’s emails, publications, and BitcoinTalk posts. These resources were compared to the white-paper of other crypto projects. According to the result, the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto came out: Gavin Andresen.

Ok, Maybe It Is Not Revealed

Gavin Andresen is one of the developers of the Bitcoin Cash project. He refuses the claim (2) and even makes fun of the research. Zy Crypto insists on the result: The statistics and the data they published show that the style of Nakamoto and Andresen is really similar. We cannot, however, consider this as a “precisely proven” situation: Officially, Nakamoto’s identity is still unknown. Using Stylometry technique, Georgetown University did a similar research in the past and claimed that Nakamoto could be one of the following persons: Nick Szabo, Ian Grigg, Wei Dai, and Timothy C. May. Although the technique used is the same, it is noteworthy that the results are different. Craig Steven also claimed that he was Satoshi Nakamoto, but it soon appeared that he was lying (3). The vast majority still think Nakomoto is not a single person, but a group of independent developers. For some reason, there is another group claiming that Nick Szabo is actually Nakamoto too (4). Apparently, we will continue to discuss who Satoshi Nakamoto is in the future, because no one still seems to have an idea.
